A McLane mower is perfectly acceptable for what you are trying to do. Adjustments are simple and maintenance is simple compared to a $20,000 greens mower that is unable to cut at the height you need. Many fine lawns in my state are cut with a McLane. Not a rotary of any kind. Putting a 21" on that lawn will probably get you fired.

It starts up just fine in choke but after the usual warm-up and after I move the choke lever back to normal idle, the engine dies. I've taken the air filter off and sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb.

Only 1 very small nick. You can only find it with your fingers. Does not effect the reel clearance. Cleaned everything up and reassembled. Adjusting the reel to the bed knife is tricky. Getting the reel to cut paper and not hit the bed knife is not easy. It took me about a day to get it right all across the reel. Never did get a reply from McLane.
